What is SpineSync?

SpineSync is a wearable EMG monitoring system that gives clinicians real-time visibility into spinal muscle activity.

Four wireless, coin-sized surface electrodes attach to the patient's back and transmit live muscle activation data to a companion app. Our ML algorithm identifies abnormal activation patterns and automatically generates clinical reports and personalised rehab plans.
 

For clinicians: objective, automatically analysed data to replace guesswork. Track muscle function in real time, monitor progress between sessions, and deliver targeted treatment backed by evidence.

For patients: wear it throughout your day. See exactly which muscles are underperforming or compensating, follow your rehab plan, and track your recovery in real time, not just feel it.

Our Story

Back pain is one of the most common conditions in the world. It's also one of the least understood.

We know this firsthand. We both have scoliosis. Between physio appointments, scans, and consultations, we kept hitting the same wall: clinicians could see our spines, but not the muscles controlling them.

That gap, between what's visible and what's actually causing the pain, is where SpineSync was born.

We're two bioengineers from Imperial College London, and we built the tool we wished had existed. A wearable EMG device that gives clinicians real-time visibility into spinal muscle activation, so rehabilitation can finally target the right muscles, not just the symptoms.
